Mesh2Surface Licensing

Make sure you have Rhinoceros 7, Rhinoceros 6 or Rhinoceros 5 installed.
Before you begin make sure that you have the latest version of the software installed. Click on this link to download and install the latest version. The version of the software installed must be 6.1.3 or higher.
You will also need an activation license key which you will receive when you purchase the software.

To activate the software, the computer must have access to our internet server. Check your antivirus software and the firewall to make sure that the software can connect to www.quicksurface3d.com.

1. Activation on a single PC

1.1. Start Rhino, then select 'Mesh2Surface \ Activate Software...' from the main menu

1.2. Enter the provided activation token into the empty box. Then press Activate

1.3. The software will display a message like in the image below. If you get an error message, check the connection to the internet. If your computer is not connected to the internet, you will need another license to activate offline. Contact us to obtain an offline license if this is the case.

1.4. Restart the software and start using the software normally. There is no need for the computer to have access to the internet anymore.

2. Transfer the license from one pc to another

This process allows you to stop using the software on one computer and start using the software on another device. Before you begin, download and install the latest version of the software on the SECOND PC/Laptop. Make sure that the two devices where the software is installed have access to the internet and our webserver - www.quicksurface3d.com

2.1. Start Rhinoceros ON THE FIRST PC and select 'Mesh2Surface \ Options \ Manage cloud license...' from the main menu

2.2. Click on the button to unlock the license. This will connect to the license server and will make the license available for another device.

2.2. If the connection is successful you will get a confirmation message like in the image below. If you get an error message, check your internet connection and try again. If the problem persists, contact us for help.

2.3. Exit the software on this PC and start the software on your other PC/Laptop.

2.4. Activate the software on the SECOND PC with the same activation license key as described above in '1. Activation on a single PC'.

3. Using the software on multiple devices

It is possible to use the software on two or more computers, but not at the same time. For example in your organisation you can install the software on a laptop and one or more PCs. All of them must have access to internet. Configure every computer as described in 'OPTION 1' (see below).
Detalied example: If a user starts the software on PC1, the software will notify the server that PC1 is using the software and the server will mark the license as being used in its database. If another user tries to use the software on PC2, then the server will refuse to provide a license because the software is used. In this case the user on PC1 must close the software to release the license and the other person can use it on PC2. This situation can work also if you have a PC at work, but also you can use it on your PC from home in the same way. Just make sure when you leave work you exit the application on your PC so when you start the PC at home it can gain access to the license.

In some cases people don't want to depend on the internet connection. For example if a user needs to get the laptop from work and visit a customer or travel on a plane (there is no internet connection in this case). In this scenario the user must use the OPTION 2 approach (see below).
The way it works is: the user locks the license on his laptop, then takes the laptop and uses is as long as it is needed without any need for internet. The other computers cannot use the software, because the license server replies that the license is being used at the moment. When the user with the laptop returns back, he needs to connect the laptop to internet and unlock the license. Now the license can be used again from the other computers.

OPTION 1 - Automatically get and release the license while using the software

This option is suitable if you are always connected to internet. In this case everytime you exit the software the license will be available for another device to use the software. If you want to use the software on 2 or even more devices, make sure that you unlock the license on all the devices where the software is installed.

Before applying this option, the computer must be activated to use the software as described in '1. Activation on a single PC'.
After the activation select 'Mesh2Surface \ Options \ Manage cloud license' from the main menu. Press the button 'Unlock license for use on multiple devices'.

If the process is successful, the license will be stored on the webserver and everytime the user starts the software on any PC, the software will get the license from the server if the license is not in use by another device.

OPTION 2 - Manually lock and unlock the license

This option is suitable in cases when you don't want the software to connect to internet while using the software. The disadvantage is that everytime when you want to use the software on another device you need to release the license on the first PC and then get the license on another PC and you must do this manually.

On the PC where the software is used currently, select 'Mesh2Surface \ Options \ Manage cloud license ....' from the main menu. Press the button 'Unlock license for use on multiple devices'.

If the process is successful, the license will be stored on the webserver and available for another computer.

On the PC/Laptop where you want to start using the software, select 'Mesh2Surface \ Options \ Manage cloud license ....' from the main menu. Press on the button 'Lock license for this computer only'.

NOTE: The software will ask you to enter the last 4 symbols of the original activation license key to lock the license on this PC.

If the process is successful, the license will become locked for this PC only and no other PC can use the software with this license.

4. Configure cloud licenses in an organisation / university

It is normal that an organisation or university purchase a license that allows use on multiple devices at the same time, for example a license that allows 10 people to use the software at the same time. But the organisation wants to allow many people to use it - all of the students and professors in the university in the class room or on their computers at home.
Activate the software on every single PC in the following way:

- Install the software on the computers that are intended to use the software.
- Register one of the computers that will use the software as described in '1. Activation on a single PC';
- Before moving on the next PC, start the software, select 'Settings \ Manage cloud license ...' from the main menu and select 'Unlock license for use on multiple devices'.
- Exit the software;
- Repeat this for all the computers.

This process is normally done by one person who knows the activation license key. At a later stage if someone tries to lock the license on his PC (which is a bit selfish as will reduce the number of licenses for the others), the software uses a security check and asks the user to enter the last 4 digits of the activation key. So no unauthorised locking is possible.

You can now start using the software on any of the computers that are activated (registered). The number of computers where the software can run at the same time is 10 (in this example). You can always add a new computer using the provided activation license key. Don't forget to unlock the license to make it available for the other computers.
